Tyra Jackson Ike-Asogwa

Founder and Co-Artistic Director

Tyra J is a graduate of NYU’s Tisch Dance Master of Fine Art degree program and has completed all levels of the Horton Pedagogy Training Program. She is an undergraduate of the University of Alabama’s Department of Theatre and Dance Program where she performed and choreographed with the Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre. She is the Founder and Co-Artistic Director of Alabma’s premiere Black dance company INNERGY Inc; a professional dance & wellness company that curates dance productions and hosts master dance workshops around the world, exposing young people to the arts.

INNERGY’s mission is To strengthen the mind, body and spirit through dance and wellness by curating dance productions and teaching master classes around the world with an emphasis in serving BIPOC communities. She is the 2023 Alabama State Council of the Arts Fellow and a 2023 Finalist for the Dance/USA Fellowship program. Tyra J is a 200 hr certified yoga instructor and a master of her craft. Tyra J has been invited by award winning playwright Terrence Spivey to choreograph for his original play An Ocean in my Bones. This play premiers in Mobile Alabama and will highlight and honor the ancestors of the Clotilda; the last known slave ship to enter the United States. Tyra J. has toured Italy as performer and choreographer with the Toscana Dance Hub. 

In recent years, Tyra J has Performed and toured with Philadelphia’s premiere modern dance company Philadanco and set the work “Flying Mortals” on Philadanco’s DII. She was selected numerous times to present works for The Alabama Dance Festival Choreographer Showcase featuring dancers from the Mt. Hebron Spiritual Light Dancers and INNERGY. Tyra J. choreographed for Howard University’s Musical Theater Program “Passing Strange and has co-produced concerts and works with award winning Dance Magazines top 25 to watch choreographer Princess Mhoon. Tyra J has taught, choreographed, directed, and managed for acclaimed organizations such as Dance Institute of Washington, ClancyWorks Dance Company, Carla and Company, Dance Place, Princess Mhoon Dance Institute, Jacobs Pillow, and NYU’s Second Avenue Dance Company..

Alicia Nicole Thompson

Co-Artistic Director

Alicia Nicole Thompson is a Dance Educator, Choreographer and Co-Artistic Director of INNERGY. She is also a third year Dunham Teaching Certification Candidate. Alicia Nicole began her training at Dance Theatre of Huntsville under the direction of Monique Ryan and later attended the University of Alabama where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Dance, cum laude. Upon graduation, Alicia Nicole continued her passion for educating and inspiring as Associate Director of Dance Theatre of Huntsville and as Assistant Choreographer for DanceAll Productions. Alicia Nicole later relocated to perform with Dallas Black Dance Theatre: Encore. She toured nationally and internationally with the company and performed works by Talley Beatty, Christopher Huggins, and Mel Tomlinson to name a few.

Alicia Nicole’s artistic journey eventually led her to Atlanta and New York City where she continues to make an impact in concert and commercial dance. She was featured as a principal dancer in the HBO Film “Bessie” starring Queen Latifah. She has also performed with the Atlanta Opera and in a regional production of The Wiz, directed and choreographed by Fosse legend, Lloyd Culbreath. Alicia Nicole prides herself in her award winning choreography and the impact she has made as an educator. She is a former educator for Fulton County Schools in Atlanta.  She is a past choreographer for the Dance Canvas Performance Series and the Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre at the University of Alabama. She was a guest teaching artist for the Black Girls Lead! Conference x Black Girls Rock! in collaboration with SLMDances. More recently, Alicia Nicole was selected as a Dance Fellow for the Alabama State Council on the Arts which funded her research of dances of the African Diaspora in the United States and abroad. She also was selected as an American Ballet Theatre RISE Scholar and is now a certified ABT Instructor. As current Director of the Training School at Dance Theatre of Huntsville, Alicia Nicole is very excited for what is to come for her career. She continues to teach her philosophy of the importance of diversity in dance, attention to detail and combining mind, body, and spirit in all aspects of dance.
